Frequently Asked Questions About Private Tuition
The Confident Kids Tuition website answers most questions prospective clients like to know. However, we've assembled some of the more frequently asked questions here for your convenience. If you can't find the answers you are looking for, then please don't hesitate to Contact Us.
What if I (or my child) don't like the home tutor provided?
This can happen (as in all walks of life!) but you needn't worry. We offer an initial meeting of 20 minutes with the home tutor, so you can make up your mind. During this time the home tutor may wish to do an assessment, and you can ask questions and get to know them. This is completely free of charge, and will enable you to make an informed decision. If you really don't take to the tutor, then you can come back to us for an alternative, or simply walk away.
What if we don't get on after a period of time / or decide to change tutors some time after the initial lesson?
You can change your home tutor whenever you wish. Your existing tutor need not know until we inform them, while we are arranging an alternative. This very rarely happens, but in principle it can be done.
Why do we have to pay an agency fee?
Agency fees are the only income of Confident Kids Tuition. They cover the considerable and extensive insurance policies needed when adults are working with children up to 18 years of age. But also allow the business to exist, providing its unique service.
How much will it cost us per lesson?
The actual cost per lesson is set out in brief, and in detail on the following page: What Does It Cost?
What if I want to cancel the lessons? How much notice will I need?
You can cancel the weekly lessons at any time you wish to. As agency fees are paid by standing order, only you are in a position to inform your bank to cancel it. We ask for 1 month's notice, purely as a courtesy to the home tutor who may have spent time planning lessons, but there is nothing stopping anyone from finishing the lessons at any time they wish to - there is no penalty fee.
Can I have lessons on an ad hoc basis i.e. 2 some months, 3 in others ?
No. Unfortunately this isn't possible. As this is an income for home tutors, they could be filling those missed slots with regular clients. Also, as any teacher will tell you, learning needs a regular commitment for it to be successful.
What if my child is ill the week of the lesson, or if we go away on holiday?
As a courtesy to teachers, it will be necessary to cancel (or preferably re-arrange) any missed lessons as soon as parents are able. However, there will be no lesson fees payable. Agency fees will still be payable. NB. This is subject to terms and conditions.
Will the terms and conditions contract tie me in?
Definitely not! It isn't like a mobile phone contract in that you have to pay for 2 years or more. You can walk away at any point and stop paying.
Can you guarantee success?
Unfortunately, people being people, it is impossible to quantify an amount of success beforehand. However, what we can guarantee is a friendly, efficient service. And perhaps more crucially, that your child will learn more in an hour's 1 to 1 tuition, than they ever could in a comparable 'whole class' lesson. We can do the teaching that a class teacher can only ever aspire to do. I should know - I was one for nearly 20 years!! Many of our clients stay with us for more than a year - proving that in the vast majority of cases, 1 to 1 tuition really does work.
My working commitments have changed. Can I change my slot for tuition?
The answer to this very much depends on the personal circumstances of your alloted home tutor. In the first instance you should approach them and ask! If unsuccessful, you can always consider changing to a home tutor who fits better into your own personal circumstances.
I live outside the areas of Wigan, Warrington and St.Helens. Can you still find me a home tutor?
This very much depends on where you live, and your proximity to the tutors we have currently contracted to us. Give us a call, and we'll do our best to meet your needs.
